iPad Questions

  • Q: What is MDM or AirWatch?
A: MDM or Mobile Device Management is a security software that allows us to be able to manage district-owned iPads. AirWatch is GUSD's current MDM provider.
  • Q: I have a new student, when can I have an iPad for him/her?
A: As soon as you submit a IT Help Desk ticket ticket, our goal is to have the student's account(s) and iPad ready to use within a few days, if not sooner.
  • Q: I have a student who just left the school, what should I do?
A: Please submit a IT Help Desk ticket ticket so we can disable the student's account and have the iPad reassigned to a new student.
  • Q: Can I monitor/see what the students are doing on their iPads?
A: Due to Apple's limitations, we do not currently have a way to view student's iPads. However, please refer to AirWatch's Teacher Tools for some ability to manage iPads in the classroom.

iPad Apps:
  • Q: What is VPP?
A: Apple's VPP or Volume Purchase Program allows the district to purchase paid apps in bulk, at 50% discount for 20 quantities or more. It is tied with our MDM and it allows us to reuse the licenses without having to repurchase the same apps.
  • Q: How do I purchase apps?
A: Please visit the Purchasing Apps page for more details.
  • Q: What is "Gateway Apps"?
A: Gateway Apps is a quick way to access all of the managed apps as well as purchased apps assigned to the staff/student. You can access Gateway Apps by pressing the app icon.
